Family
Medicine: A Vision for the Future
This
address was delivered to the New York State Academy of Family
Physicians on the occasion of Dr. Neil Calman's completion
of his term as President in June 1998. It reflects upon
the need for family physicians to adapt to the rapid changes
in medical knowledge and technology. It goes on to encourage
the work of family physicians in serving those in need and
suggests that a single-payer system of health care financing
and universal coverage are essential elements we must work
to implement in the United States.
