AmeriCorps Community HealthCorps Member

The Institute for Family Health’s Community HealthCorps is a national AmeriCorps program that promotes health care for the underserved while developing future healthcare workers. Institute HealthCorps members engage in a variety of projects to promote access to health care and health information in medically underserved communities.

Stipended positions available include:
• Conducting community outreach and health education on preventive health topics
• Working with the Bronx Health REACH Coalition on community-based health education activities in an effort to eliminate racial disparities in health outcomes;
• Working with Bronx Healthy Hearts to promote healthier nutrition options in schools and restaurants
• Providing referrals, health education, and supportive services to homeless individuals.
• Other assignments include: translation services, enrolling patients in health insurance programs, etc.

Living Allowance and Benefits:
• Monthly stipend (about $11,000 for 1700 hours of service – 11 months full-time)
• Educational award ($4,725 upon completion of service)

Requirements:
• United States citizen, United States national, or lawful permanent resident
• High school diploma or GED or commitment to obtain during the service year
• At least 17 years of age
• Strong commitment to service
• Respect for and interest in working in medically underserved communities
• Excellent people skills
• Ability to learn quickly
• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Creativity and initiative
