AHEC Internships for Social Work Students
The Metropolitan Regional AHEC office matches high school, college, and health professional students from all backgrounds into voluntary internships and clinical rotations throughout the year.
We place students into a variety of health fields, and all participants will work at sites that are in medically underserved areas.

Academic Credit
If you are interested in receiving academic credit for the work you do with us, we will need approval from your school. This agreement for academic credit may already be in affect, so please inquire with your dean about whether a Clinical Placement Agreement is in place. If not, you must provide us with a contact person at your school.
Medical Requirements
Any student working with the Metro AHEC/Institute for Urban Family Health will be required to provide proof of the following vaccinations and titers:
(i) immunization for rubella, consistent with good medical practice,(except that a woman of child-bearing age shall have a screening test to be followed by immunization as appropriate;
(ii) immunization for measles (rubeola) and evidence of immunity to measles;
(iii) PPD (Mantoux) skin test
(iv) a positive varicella (chicken pox) antibody titer.
Please Note
We will try our best, but we may not be able to place every applicant. A successful match is contingent on the availability of preceptors and placement sites.
