Kwame Kitson, MD
Vice President, Continuous Quality Improvement
Kwame Kitson, MD, is responsible for quality improvement activities at all Institute health centers. He chairs the Institute’s Clinical Directors Group Quality Committee and Health and Wellness Workgroup, and provides clinical oversight for the Institute’s centralized patient outreach team. He also serves as the clinical lead for the Organization’s Electronic Reporting modules – Reporting Workbench and Crystal Reporting. Kitson also practices as an HIV specialist and family physician at Urban Horizons Family Health Center.
Dr. Kitson graduated from the doctor of medicine/bachelor of science combined program at Howard University. He completed the family practice residency program in social medicine at Montefiore Hospital in 1992 and in the same year joined the Institute. He served as medical director and associate residency director at Bronx-Lebanon Family Practice, as well as medical director of ABC Health Plan, when the Institute operated those programs. In 2000, Dr. Kitson was appointed director of continuous quality improvement, and since 2004 has served in that role as vice president.
In 2009 and 2010, Dr. Kitson served as a federal reviewer and review committee chair under the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. He has lectured across the country on the implementation of electronic health records and the impact of decision supports on quality improvement.
